Privacy Policy
Emberly is a social focus tracker: a Pomodoro timer with friends. This policy explains what data we collect through our website waitlist and our app, how we use it, and the choices you have. We've kept it in plain English because that's how we'd want to read it.
The short version: we collect your email for the waitlist, your sign-in identity and the focus sessions you log in the app, and nothing else. No ads, no analytics trackers, no selling your data, ever.
Who we are
Emberly is a pre-release product. For anything privacy-related, contact us at aboy.gabriel@outlook.com.
What we collect on this website
The only data our website collects is the email address you enter in the waitlist form. We use it for one purpose: to tell you about early access and launch updates. You can unsubscribe at any time by emailing us.
While we're pre-release, waitlist signups are stored locally in your own browser (localStorage) until our signup backend is live; once it is, your email will be sent to and stored on our servers or a mailing-list provider. This website sets no tracking cookies and runs no analytics.
What we collect in the app
Account & sign-in
You sign in with Apple, Google, or Facebook. From your provider we receive a unique account identifier, and your name and email to set up your profile. We store the identifier so you can sign back in; we don't post to your accounts, read your friends lists, or access any of your social data. Facebook sign-in uses Facebook's Limited Login.
Profile
Your handle, display name, avatar color, and optional bio: the things you choose to put on your profile.
Focus activity
The core of the app: your focus sessions (start and end times, work and break intervals, focused minutes), the tasks you attach to them, and your streaks and weekly stats.
Social activity
Who you follow, the groups you join, the study events you RSVP to, and the kudos you give and receive.
What we don't do
- No ads, and no ad networks in the app or on the site.
- No analytics or tracking SDKs: we don't run Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or similar tools anywhere.
- No selling or renting your data, to anyone, for any reason.
- No cross-app tracking: our iOS app declares that it does not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
Sharing and visibility
Sharing in Emberly is under your control. Every session has a visibility setting (followers, group, or private), and you can set a default in your profile. Other users only ever see what your visibility settings allow: sessions shared with followers appear in their feed; private sessions are visible to you alone. You can also mark your whole profile as private.
Third-party services
- Sign-in providers (Apple, Google, Facebook) handle authentication when you sign in; each has its own privacy policy.
- Fonts: this website's typefaces are self-hosted, so loading the page sends no font requests to Google or any other third party.
- Hosting: our website and servers run on infrastructure providers that process data on our behalf.
Security and retention
Sign-in tokens are stored hashed on our servers, and your credentials on your device are kept in the operating system's secure Keychain. We keep your data for as long as your account exists; delete your account (or ask us to) and it goes with it.
Your rights
Email aboy.gabriel@outlook.com to:
- Ask what data we hold about you (access)
- Fix anything that's wrong (correction)
- Delete your account and data, or come off the waitlist (deletion)
We'll respond to every request, usually within a few days.
Children
Emberly is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
If our data practices change (for example, when the waitlist backend goes live or the app launches publicly), we'll update this page and the effective date at the top.
